SHINING BLACK (MARK BOALS & OLAF THORSEN) – Postcards For The End Of The World
Seconda prova per gli Shining Back a due anni di distanza dall’opera prima. Gli Shining Black, tanto per rinfrescare la memoria sono la band di Mark Boals (Yngwie Malmsteen, Ring Of Fire) e di Olaf Thorsen (Labyrinth, Vision Divine), voce e chitarra che insieme creano un sound che dall’heavy metal arriva ad abbracciare influenze anche di hard rock melodico e di progressive. “Postcards For The End Of The World” ha un titolo che per i giorni che stiamo vivendo non è ben augurabile, ma la musica ci fa uscire da un tunnel buoi e ci abbaglia con luci forti e colorate. La title track, “Postcards From The End Of The World” è heavy rock dalle forti melodie con la sempre affascinante voce di Mark Boals e con un guitar work efficace di Olaf Thorsen e “Higher Than The World”, brano che segue le stesse strade, ma con melodie più marcate sia nella voce di Boals che nei fraseggi della chitarra di Thorsen e ancora “We Are Death Angels”, dove l’energia cresce e le tastiere di Oleg Smirnoff danno atmosfere prog. C’è poi “Summer Solstice Under Delphi’s Sky”, altro brano trascinante e dove crescono le atmosfere progressive e “Like Leaves In November”, ottimo brano più articolato e fantasioso. Se c’è da scegliere un brano come punta dell’album direi “A Hundred Thousand Shades Of Black”, speed metal melodico e con tastiere atmosferiche e prog, ma anche il finale dell’album è ottimo con “Fear And Loathing” e “Time Heals, They Say”, che sembrano riassumere quanto detto dal primo brano. Gli Shining Black sono una realtà alla seconda prova discografica e l’incontro Mark Boals/Olaf Thorsen, risulta essere nuovamente vincente.
