BIG BIG TRAIN – WOODCUT
I progster inglesi Big Big Train tornano con un nuovo album che conferma le loro qualità ed il loro andare avanti con coerenza cambiando di volta in vola aspetto nel sound, ma rimanendo attenti a non snaturare troppo la parola progressive. “Woodcut” è un altro ottimo album che va ascoltato con attenzione perché racchiude infinite sfumature da scoprire ascolto dopo ascolto.
“Inkwell Black” è un breve intro strumentale, malinconico e sinfonico con un a sezione d’archi che apre le porte a “The Artist”, splendido prog sinfonico e romantico e molto Genesis e si prosegue con “The Lie Of The Landd”, dalle atmosfere avvolgenti e arrivano poi sonorità rinascimentali e celtiche in quel folk/prog a titolo “The Sharpest Blade”, song che in crescendo si trasforma in un progressive rock anche articolato e si percorre la stessa strada, ma con più idee e sfumature in “Albion Press”, che tra partiture strumentali più articolate ed altre più melodiche e romantiche, potrebbe essere uno dei migliori momenti dell’album.
Ottimo brano è anche “Arcadia”, molto Flower Kings come stile, splendida ballad prog che sa anche emozionate. Splendido lo strumentale “Cut And Run”, ritmiche dispare, partiture strumentali articolate e dove emerge tutta la tecnica strumentale della band. Ancora forti emozioni nel finale con le atmosfere cullanti ed avvolgenti di “Counting Stars” e di “Last Stand”. Album dopo album i Big Big Train riescono a regalarci sempre tante emozioni.
