JINJER – Intervista al bassista Eugene Abdukhanov

Jinjer2

Ciao Marco! È un piacere per me! Grazie mille!

“Home Back” è la tua canzone preferita? Davvero? Cosa interessante! Scelta interessante!

Ciao!

** ENGLISH VERSION **

This is a summary of my telephone chat with Eugene Abdukhanov, bass player of the Ukrainan metal band Jinjer on occasion of the release of their new album “Macro”.

Hi Eugene, welcome to the pages of the webzine Tuttorock, first of all, congratulations for the new album called “Macro”, I really appreciate it. You have published the Micro EP in January and now a LP in these days, two publications in the same year, do you have so many ideas?

Hi Marco! It’s a pleasure for me! Thank you very much! We have always many ideas, yeah. The thing is that we doesn’t work as other bands, we always start from a blank page. When we started the composing of Macro in February we had nothing in the beginning.

Your songs are structurally very technical and complex, how are they born? For example I heard a bit of reggae in Judgment (& Punishment) and a bit of jazz in my favourite track, Home Back.

Is Home Back your favourite song? Really? Interesting thing! Interesting choice! Yes, the structures of our songs sometimes are very complex. We keep writing songs letting the flow go and when we feel that it’s a good thing we just stop. We never plan the way of a song, they come naturally and I think it is the right way for the composing.

It seems to me that things are going well for your band, you started the tour in the United States and I have read that some shows is sold out. Then you will continue the tour in Europe and even there you have sold out, your fans like your musical proposal, are you satisfied with how the things are going?

Oh yes, not only some shows but most of them are sold out. Of course we are all satisfied but this is not the priority of the band. Our priorities are to play live onstage and to be able to compose new songs. Playing our songs onstage brings a lot of satisfaction to us.

When you presented the video of your new song “On the Top” you have declared: true happiness has nothing to do with career, results, money, etc. It seems that the world turns faster and faster every day. What is happiness for you?

It’s a very difficult thing to talk about. One time I read that if one person has not dreams for this person is not possible to be happy, this is the key. People must dream, now people seem like in absence of dream, they only want to make money and to buy things. We live in a consumer society, this is the problem. Definitely happiness is to realize yourself. Self realizations is a big part of happiness, not intented as success, people can realize themselves in many ways, it’s satisfaction, not money.

Can you say two words about Tatiana, your fantastic singer who can change her voice in a few seconds?

Yes, she is very special for the skills how she built her vocalizes. She’s absolutely unic, she immediately passes from an aggressive voice to a clean voice with many facets. I think she is on the top three / five best metal vocalist in the world.

For the few who don’t know you, can you tell me how you met the other band members?

I wasn’t in the band at the beginning, the original members worked in the same town, it was like a small community, they went out together, they played together. I came from a different town at about 40 km from them and I played in a different band that shared the stage with Jinjer. One day they ask me to join them and i did it in 2011.

How is the metal scene in Ukraine?

Well, the metal scene is something divided in two different sides, the good side has wonderful bands famous in the world, the sad side doesn’t have infrastructure, in a country of more of 40 million of people you can do not more of 6-7 shows during the year, this is the scene.

Is there any band you would like to collaborate with?

Oh, it’s a hard thing to talk about. Many bands collaborate with more famous artists to get visibility but that’s not good. The priority of most musicians must be the music, not the popularity.

What are your future projects once you have completed the European tour?

We will on tour around the world for much of 2020 even though it is early to talk about dates because many of them have not yet been confirmed.

Thank you very much for this interview, do you want to say something to the readers of this interview and to those who come to see you at the Magazzini Generali in Milan on next December, 14?

Yes, peace and love to everyone. See you at our shows! Bye!
