EDENBRIDGE – SET THE DARK ON FIRE
Con più di 25 anni di onorata carriera, gli austrici Edenbridge con “Set The Dark On Fire” giungono al loro album numero 12, che arriva a 4 anni di distanza dall’album precedente. Qui ci sono tante idee, ottimi arrangiamenti ed un sound trascinante, professionale e sempre molto avvolgente. “The Ghostship Diaries” è tra progressiva metal e symphonic metal con un refrain avvolgente e la voce di Sabine Edelsbacher ottima per il genere proposto e “Cosmic Embrace” ha atmosfere più sinfoniche mentre atmosfere celtiche ci sono in “Where The Wild Things Are”, ottima song con un refrain sempre molto orecchiabile ed ottimo da cantare ai loro concerti.
C’è poi un breve strumentale malinconico, “Tears Of The Prophets”, che apre le porte ad un’avvolgente power ballad, sempre dai toni malinconici ma con riffs di chitarra graffianti ed un guitar solo passionale e toccante, “Our Place Among The Stars”. Arriva poi “Set The Dark On Fire”, il brano più metal dell’intero lavoro ma non mancano fluide melodie scandite, oltre che dalle tastiere di Lanvall, anche dalla sempre splendida voce della cantante che ci accarezza anche nella splendida ballad sinfonica “Bounded By The light” e nei vocalizzi arabeggianti di “Divien Down Receal”, brevissimo interludio ma molto passionale e d’effetto.
Nel finale ci sono quattro brani che formano una piccola suite, “Speak Of The Everflame”, splendida, divisa in quattro movimenti, tra progressive metal, symphonic metal e un ottimo guitar work di Lanvall per circa 15 minuti di pura Arte espressa in Musica. Penso uno dei livelli più alti della band austriaca.
